Meet Kuai Kuai, (male, right) and Le Le, (female, left)! This is a typical sight you would witness every morning. They really enjoy just basking on the rock for hours and later going in for a dip when it gets warmer.

A little background about both of them, I had Kuai since I was a little kid! (not sure which RES he is in the photograph haha). His companion passed away in 2006. My older brother claims it has been with him since he was a kid.. which would make Kuai close to 30 years old. wow!

It was after the passing of his companion that we decided to get another slider to accompany him. Many of the sliders we got from the pet store did not survive, but one managed to! And that's the Le Le we have with us till this day. Le Le should be 14 years of age since we got her in 2006. Sadly, I did not have a phone then.. so I do not have a photo of her when she was a baby!

I have to admit, I did not really care for the RES as much as I wished I had in the past. However, in recent years, I have invested time and effort to build this beautiful home for them.

An open-concept where they are free to roam on land, and swim anytime they like! Red-eared sliders require as much land and water space as you can possibly give them.

A snack for them on a rainy night :)

So what change did Paul make in their lives?

Some snippets we captured the day Paul was introduced to Kuai and Le!

Enjoying clean and fresh water :)

That look of suspicion Le had towards Paul.

Kuai guarding the pool... not wanting Paul to enter it.

Paul's first time entering the pool!

What we noticed instantly when Paul entered the pool, was how Le got chased by Kuai, to the extent that she scrambled her way out of the pool. Ever since that day, whenever Paul enters the pool and if both Kuai and Le are in there, Le would enter panic mode to leave the pool. We still do not know the reason why, but we suspect its a power dominance thing.

As a result, I only let Paul out for a few hours in the day, with close monitoring to ensure minimal fights between Kuai and Le (Kuai would seemingly chase Le out of the pool, and if she does not get out in time, she gets bitten by Kuai).

In the near future, I hope to expand their water space to let them have more personal space and stop fighting

So yup, that's all for this post, will update more when the time comes!
